How To Make Tile Floor Less Slippery? [Four Ways]

By Tileswale

There are different types of flooring out there. Each type of flooring has its own pros and cons. On one hand, the good thing about tile flooring is, it’s durable, water-resistant, and easy to maintain. However, the main con is tile flooring can be very slippery, especially when wet. This can result in all kinds of injuries.

Ways To Make Tile Floor Non-Slip

Making the floor tiles slip-resistant becomes more important when you have slippery tiles in your bathroom. By reducing slipperiness of the tile floor, you can make your tile floor safer. In this post, we will share some tips on how to make tiles less slippery.

1. Using anti-slip solution

One of the best and easiest ways to make your tile floor non-slippery is through anti-slip solution. Some examples of anti-slip solutions for tiles are InvisaTread, Liquid Traction, and Slip Grid. Anti-slip solutions work by adding traction and reducing slipperiness.

Make sure to use a good quality anti-slip solution. Otherwise, the anti-solution will make your tiles less slippery, but will also ruin the texture of your floor tiles.

2. Anti-slip treads

If you are looking for an inexpensive solution to make your tile flooring less slippery, consider using anti-slip treads. Apart from being cost-effective, another good thing about anti-slip treads is that they make the tile floor non-slip without affecting the original surface of the tiles.

Besides this, they are removable as well. In future, if you want to remove and want to try something else, you can easily get rid of this solution without damaging the surface.

However, the main problem is anti-slip tread solutions are not as durable as non-slip treatments. Thus, in terms of effectiveness, you might have to compromise somewhat.

3. Use non-slip rugs

Another way to make your floor tile non-slip is through non-slip rugs. If you are looking for an easiest and quickest method, this one’s for you. Make sure to get rugs with non-slip backing.

A rug with non-slip backing would prevent slips and falls. If you want to use existing rugs which do not have non-slip backing, you can place non-slip rug pad underneath your existing rug.

4. Replace old tiles with non-slip ones

Another available option you have is replacing your old tiles with non-slip ones. If your purpose is just to make your home less slippery, replacing with new tiles is not advisable. The process can be pretty expensive and time-consuming.

Replacing old tiles with new, non-slip ones is viable when your existing tiles are old, damaged, or if you don’t like them anymore. Although the process is quite expensive and time-consuming, it can deliver great results.

Final Thoughts

Here, we have seen different ways to make tile floors less slippery. Depending on your budget, you can work on the right method. Each method we have mentioned above has its own pros and cons.

If you want to place rugs, consider using rugs with non-slip backing. If you don’t want to use rugs, use an anti-slip solution or anti-slip tread. If you don’t want to place rugs or use an anti-slip solution, you can consider replacing your old tiles with non-slip tiles. Replacement is advisable only if the existing tiles are damaged, old, or you don’t like them anymore.
